Nomad’s Heritage
What can a Nomad leave behind for his children to wear? A heirloom inspired by Kazakh portable houses called ‘Yurts’ and the value of family and community they bring with them
My concept is inspired by the lifestyle of Kazakh Pastoral Nomads, who spend all their lives travelling together with their families across mountains and steppes of inner Eurasia, carrying their dome shaped houses called ‘Yurts’ with them. The Yurt’s top circular opening, the ‘Shanyrak’ is the main backbone part of the Yurt made from willow wood, it resembles a blue sky, letting air and sunlight inside the house. The father passes it on to his youngest son in hopes he can build a Yurt with his own family.
Final Outcome, traditional gouache paint ups of a 3 piece jewellery collection, the necklace "‘The Shanyrak’, earrings ‘Yurt pieces’ and the ring ‘Balance’. Collection pieces intended to be made from : peach gold, Kazakh ruby’s and turquoise beads.

In my designs I hope to portray the spirit of a nomad traveler, carrying their home with them as a legacy of their older generation’s dwellings as Mr Louis Vuitton establishes a local brand, sensibility of which he can pass down to his son Georges Vuitton.
The thoughtful construction and mobility of the Yurt is a great symbol of Nomadic travelling spirit, embracing family and community through the process of its assembly and the legacy it leaves behind for future generations.
